Privacy Policy
LATCH is an independent, browser-based editor for the Hologram Microcosm. We try to collect as little as possible. This page explains what we do collect, why, and how to opt out.
Who we are
LATCH is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Hologram Electronics. For any privacy question or request, email us at josh@latchapp.io.
What we collect
We collect two kinds of information, and neither requires an account:
- Your presets stay on your device. The patches, libraries, and version history you create are stored locally in your browser (local storage / IndexedDB). They are not uploaded to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- Anonymous usage analytics. We use PostHog to understand how the site and editor are used — pages viewed, how far people scroll, which buttons get clicked, and general device/browser type and approximate (city-level) location derived from your IP address. This is collected under a random, anonymous identifier; we do not build a personal profile and do not know who you are.
We do not collect names, payment details, or precise location, and we do not currently offer user accounts.
Cookies & local storage
LATCH uses your browser's local storage to save your presets and your preferences (including whether you've dismissed the analytics notice). PostHog sets a first-party cookie to recognize a returning anonymous visitor for analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Why we collect it
We use anonymous analytics only to improve LATCH — to see which features are useful, where people get stuck, and what to build next. Our legal basis is your consent where required, and otherwise our legitimate interest in operating and improving a free product.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share anonymous usage data only with the service providers that help us run LATCH:
- PostHog — product analytics (acts as our data processor).
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery, which processes standard server request logs.
How long we keep it
Anonymous analytics events are retained by PostHog according to our project settings (and may be aggregated indefinitely). Presets you create persist in your browser until you delete them or clear your browser data.
Your choices
- Opt out of analytics. Enable “Do Not Track” or a content/ad blocker in your browser, which prevents PostHog from loading. You can also clear LATCH's storage at any time from your browser settings.
- Access or deletion. Because analytics are anonymous we usually cannot tie data to an individual, but if you have a question or request, email josh@latchapp.io and we'll help where we can.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, delete, or object to processing of your personal data.
Children
LATCH is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as LATCH evolves. We'll revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be reflected on this page.
